So, now that you have determined who you are and what you are selling, you need to begin to map out your strategy. I use the term marketing map, because this is in many ways a map that your potential clients and referral sources will follow to make it back to you. Remember that the internet is a vast place with an over-abundance of information populated by people with short attention spans. Without a well thought out mechanism to drive these people back to you, you risk wasted time and resources.
I recommend that everyone begin the map with some type of web presence, such as a website, blog or both. This will be a landing pad for clients to find your biographical information, contact, information, etc. This does not have to be fancy, but it needs to look professional. This is, in a sense, your store front and it will say a lot about you. I do want to take a moment to say that this you should be extremely realistic with expectations for this part of your map. It will be highly unlikely that you will be the recipient of business from random search engine requests for your product or service. While you can pursue a search engine optimization approach to boost your rankings, this can be expensive and will likely lead to marginal results. It will be your charter to drive business to this site and the rest of your online marketing map will be the means to this end.
The next step is research what platforms are available to you to drive business to your site. To begin this step, you need to go back to your business plan and see where you intend to get your business. There is a plethora of platforms to accomplish this and the list is constantly changing as some fall out and others emerge. I personally recommend using several platforms in a blended approach that allows a business to both push information in a drip campaign to past clients and to reach out to potential clients with salient information about the business offered. I will cover this in greater detail in further postings.
