Stucco is a cladding or wall covering system. Â Traditional hard coat stucco is typically installed as "siding" on the outside of a home. Â Like any other cladding or siding, key features of stucco include making the home look nice and sealing the structure keeping rain or other weather out. Â
Most stucco systems have three coats of stucco material over metal lathe and accessories that hold the stucco to the wall. Â Metal accessories include corner beads, trim pieces, control joints, etc. Â These metal accessories give shape to the stucco, hold it on the wall, reduce cracking, and more. Â
Stucco is a porous material and will absorb water. Â Behind any quality stucco installation is a weather barrier and flashing to keep moisture out of the home or structure. Â Houston weather is wet and humid making the weather barrier and flashing critical. Â Many of the problems associated with stucco in the Houston area are with the weather barrier and flashing behind the stucco. Â Small details in the installation of the stucco and weather barrier systems are what ensure a quality installation. Â
