    1/4 cup of minced celery
    1/4 cup of minced onion
    1/4 cup of mayonnaise
    1 large egg
    1 tablespoon of dry mustard
    1/4 teaspoon of salt
a generous pinch of cayenne pepper
    1 pound of fresh crabmeat
2 3/4 cups of fresh breadcrumbs
    2 tablespoons of butter
    2 tablespoons of olive oil
    lemon wedges

Mix the first 7 ingredients in a medium bowl. Mix in the crab. Mix in enough breadcrumbs (about 2 cups) to form a mixture that barely holds together. Spread the remaining breadcrumbs on a baking sheet. Shape the crab mixture into eight 3/4 inch thick patties. Coat the crab cakes with the remaining breadcrumbs, pressing to adhere. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour. It can be prepared 4 hours ahead, keep refrigerated. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter with 1 tablespoon of oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Add 4 crab cakes, reduce the heat to medium and cook until brown about 4 minutes per side. Wipe the skillet clean. Repeat with the remaining butter, oil and crab cakes. Transfer the crab cakes to plates. Serve crab cakes immediately with lemon wedges.

Makes 8 for appetizers or 4 main course

  • TGIF: America's Best New Wave Steakhouses - Prime 112, Miami Beach

Reminiscent of New York only steps away from the Ocean.  I can definetely say, everything on the menu is good! Of course the steaks take the cake but the sides and desserts are also phenomenal! Yes it's a wait and yes they have attitude but that's what makes it great!

Right when you enter, you'll notice the bar and the interesting snack they serve there: strips of bacon! This is a bold concept, but the rest of the restaurant will impress you just as much. The iceberg wedge works great as a starter and can serve four people. It has lots of apple bacon and bleu cheese to suit your tastes. Whatever steak you order, make sure to include the truffle butter! It's delicious and a specialty at Prime. Be careful your eyes aren't bigger than your stomach because even some of their smaller portions are sure to fill you up with the richness of the perfect cuts they serve. Although the restaurant is known for its superb steaks, the Kobe burger is a huge hit. This delicious burger will be cooked to your specifications, no mistakes here! You can also try this as sliders, but the delicious flavors are suited better for a larger burger. Try the delicious sides, especially their mac and cheese and sweet potato. The rum-baked sweet plantains pack a wallop of flavor that you won't find in the baked potato at your grandfather's favorite old school steakhouse.  Going with more people will make it easier to taste many of their delicious sides.  Their wine selection is top-notch, and desserts are heavenly.  Prime offers the radical choice of fried oreos and ice cream! While it sounds much like carnival fare, Prime serves it to the top standards, just like everything else they prepare.

This South Beach chophouse is extremely popular with upscale clientele and celebrities. Movie stars and athletes may not know a lot about good food, but their publicists' sure do. On weekends, it can be very loud and crowded. Make reservations well in advance.

Warning: expect a long wait at Prime, even with a reservation, but be ready for one of the best meals of your life.  This restaurant is even great for those who don't enjoy steak, with seafood dishes that are perfectly prepared. Don't let my comment about the wait deter you from this true SoBe experience. If you don't enjoy the laid back Miami life, i.e., eating an hour after your reservation, simply plan on an earlier reservation time to eliminate the back up.
