This special evening honoring one of Nyack's own will include film clips and a performance by musician and actor Sam Waymon and the New School Band celebrating the music of Sam's sister, the music legend Nina Simone. Waymon is perhaps best known for his contributions to the score of Jonathan Demme's award-winning film "Philadelphia." Featuring special appearances by local luminaries including Oscar-winning director Demme.

This special multi-media presentation will feature music, song, dance, and narrative outlining the struggle for voting rights in America, including the struggle for African Americans for the right to vote and the freedom and opportunity to exercise that right. Including commentary from civil rights activists Vernon Jordan, Elaine Jones, Congressman John Lewis and Jack Greenberg. Sponsored by the African American Historical Society of Rockland County in collaboration with the RCC African American History Month Committee and the Performing Arts Department. Made possible by a generous grant from the Town of Ramapo. Free admission. Open to the public. Snow date Feb. 28.
