What Does a Ranch Style Home Look Like?

Typically, ranch homes are single-story and have some of these characteristics:

    Long, low roofline
    Simple, open floor plans
Living areas separate from the bedroom(s) area
    Attached garage
Sliding glass doors opening onto a patio
Large windows (often aluminum-framed), often decorated with shutters
    Vaulted ceilings with exposed beams
Exteriors of stucco, brick and wood and glass (in Texas, often limestone)
    Large overhanging eaves
    Cross-gabled, side-gabled or hip roof
Simple and/or rustic interior and exterior trim

These houses were first built in the 1920s, but became really popular in the 1950s through the 1970s.

Need to sell your home and have a limited budget for getting it ready?

Two big things you can do that take time, but not money:

    1. Get rid of the clutter!
    2. Clean it from top to bottom!

After that, you can re-arrange your furnishings neatly and in a welcoming manner, to best show off the spaces.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can frequently find inexpensive items that don't look cheap, especially when used in sets.

Some inexpensive items that don't look cheap for room staging are:

    • Glass candlesticks or metal wall sconces.
    • Candles.
    • Tall, colorful fake flowers in an inexpensive vase.
    • The first two look nice in trios, and the last one can be a gorgeous accent on an entry table or dining room table without costing hundreds of dollars.
