Living in Palms (near Motor and Venice)

The Westside has always been expensive.  And as most of the Westside is out of reach for many first-time home buyers and renters, Palms becomes the alternative to West LA, Santa Monica or Mar Vista.  However, Palms has changed since I lived there back in the day.

Palms is a grittier area with its unkept strip malls all up and down Venice with mostly mom and pop businesses.  I'm all for mom and pop businesses thriving, but unfortunately, walking down Venice whether east or west of Motor is not exactly an enjoyable walk.

However, not wanting to be the left out of the party by its more affluent neighbors, Palms is having its own resurgence.

The Expo line has a station planned near Exposition and National.  Also, a mixed use development is in the planning stages around the station. I'm sure more development will be on its way in the coming years too.

Motor itself has some great little places to go.  Harvey's Sandwich on Motor and Palms for cheesesteak, Versailles is right around the corner on Venice, Coffee Bean, Indian food, Chinese food and a few bars future north towards National.  Palm's Cycle, The Surplus Store and the US Post Office are all in walking distance if you live near Motor and Venice.

It's a great neighborhood that allows easy access to Westwood, Century City, Santa Monica, Culver City and Venice.

WalkScore gives Palms a score of 68, but it depends on what part of the area you live.  So, for those who don't want to drive everytime they leave their home, Palms still provides you the option of walking to grab a cup of coffee, dinner or drinks.
