Removing Smoke Odors From Property - We Buy Florida Houses

Florida House Buyers: Nothing stops a house buyer in his tracks quicker than an offensive odor when he walks through the door of a house offered for sale. Cigarette smoke is one of the worst smells that linger in a home because it is generally very difficult to get rid of.Using air fresheners and potpourri will not work effectively. Nor will scented candles, incense, or Plug-Ins.

If you try any of tWe Buy Houses South Floridahese air deodorant products the result will be more like an odor of smoke and raspberry candle. Not good. You’ll have to tackle this problem to get rid of the smell at its source. The ceiling, walls, and floors will need to be scrubbed down.

Nicotine from the smoke leaves a yellowish residue that clings to everything. It doesn’t necessarily dissipate over time, but the sticky tar remains intact and emits a smell for an unknown amount of time. The residue must be removed.

The steps to take in cleaning the walls and ceiling include the removal of tar, deep clean, paint a primer coat, and then paint the final coat. If there is grout in the area you’ll need to scrub that and regroup if possible. The cleaning of the walls can be done with an alkaline builder and glycol solvent. Both can be bought at the local hardware store. Glycol may need to be purchased at a paint store.Once the wall has been cleaned and the tar removed with the solvents, you can paint a primer coat of smoke sealer.

One brand, Kilz, works very well. Wait until the walls have been cleaned and are dry and ready to be painted. Now you can give it a coat of paint of your choice. The smell should be gone from the walls at this point. Now tackle the carpet and drapes. They may need to be steam cleaned to get the smell out. Ask at the hardware store for smoke odor removing carpet shampoo or additive.

Some homes will need to replace the carpet altogether. The bathroom is an area that may contain absorbent grout that will hold the smell. Regrout the tile if necessary. Try scrubbing well first with tri-sodium phosphate or something similar. Sealing the grout could help, too.The uncarpeted floors may not be as difficult. You can use a bleach solution to start with.Be sure to go under baseboards and in cracks where the smoke residue may be hiding. Finally, wash with a heavy duty floor cleaner. Once you have accomplished these chores and your house smells good, ask your family smokers to partake outdoors away from the house until you get the house sold.
