Living in the Rio Verde Foothills
The Sonoran desert life provides some of the most scenic views in all of Maricopa County. The Rio Verde Foothills provide a welcome retreat from "city living" with its emphasis on the great outdoors. With Tonto National Park to the north and east and the McDowell Mountain State Park to the west and southwest, you can easily see why people love living in the Rio Verde Foothills.
A Little Rio Verde Foothills History
Homeowners have been living in the Rio Verde Foothills since the 1960s, when the land become available for private development.  Before that, Apache and Yavapai Indians lived peacefully here and the land was used for a huge cattle ranch. In the 1990s, however, the Rio Verde Foothills saw a significant increase in residential development. Thanks in large part to the Rio Verde Foothills Area Plan drawn up in 1979 by local residents, development is kep under tight control to ensure the preservation of the natural beauty found here for generations to come.
Rio Verde Foothills Homes
Horsemen and women find that Rio Verde Foothills ranches and ranchettes work best for their interests. Most Rio Verde Foothills homeowners work with private or shared wells. However, some homeowners are within "hauled water" areas. This doesn't distract them from building some extremely beautiful homes in the area. In fact, it is highly recommended that homes be built facing the East to take advantage of the spectacular views. Due to the water/well issues in the area, it is very important that you work with an agent who is familiar with the Rio Verde Foothills water table (hint, hint...that would be me!).
The Great Rio Verde Foothills Outdoors
Living in the Rio Verde Foothills has certain perks for anyone interested in spending time outdoors. The park lands in the area provide acres upon acres to go horseback riding, 4 wheeling, bicycling, hiking and much, much more. The Verde River is one of the Salt River's major tributaries and runs through more than 100 miles of tribal, state and private land.
