AZ as the nearly-completed Loop 303 opens the area to freeway drivers.

in outside, that is! With the wonderful weather we’ve been having, it’s
the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy what the Valley has to
offer. The area is blessed with hundreds of miles of trails in the
surrounding mountains, but you don’t have to head to the hills if you’re
looking to commune with nature.
West Valley has several city parks and trails that offer walkers,
joggers, cyclists and horse back riders opportunities to enjoy the
outdoors. The Grand Canal Linear Park offers a trail over 3 miles in length, running from 75th Avenue north of Camelback Road to 99th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Skunk Creek Linear Park, running from 51st Avenue and Utopia to 73rd Avenue and Greenway, offers a similar length trail. However, this park joins up with Thunderbird Paseo Park and its 4 miles of trails, which allows for much longer trekking.
The Arizona Canal is a popular trail for outdoor enthusiasts. The most popular stretch seems to be from Metrocenter at 28th
Avenue and Dunlap and east. Although this doesn’t seem to be an
official park, it appears that some areas have been developed for
recreation. For more information, visit http://www.localhikes.com/Hikes/UrbanRecreation_6200.asp
