What type of golf community is right for you?

The secret is getting out. Golf in Venice, Fl. is super. We have some absolutely fabulous Country Club Communities priced at a fraction to other areas in the state. These are communities in which your neighbors will become friends and after a while they become like family.

Today, Venice is known for its friendly, small-town feel, its quaint shopping center of low-rise buildings that are primarily in a Mediterranean style, and its lovely boulevard shaded by giant live oaks that extend from downtown to the beckoning beach. The beach, starting at the northern edge of the city where the Venice jetties open a passage from the Intracoastal Waterway to the Gulf of Mexico, extends for miles.

Do we want a golf community where all homeowners will become members of the club? I personally like this option. It seems like everyone has skin in the game. Just imagine 3 or 4 neighbors getting together and going out for dinner. You won’t have to worry if they belong to the club or not. Also, it is a lot easier when it comes time for the bill. What I love about the community my wife and I live in is that whenever I go to the driving range or putting green I will know someone. That is another advantage of having all homeowners become members of the club.

Do you want a golf community where the members can own their own golf cart? If you play a lot of golf, you will want a club that has a trail fee. A trail fee is when you own your own cart and the club charges you an annual fee instead of for each round. This is especially good if you have two golfers, because cart fees can add up pretty quickly. If you don’t plan to play much golf you may want to look into a golf community that is semi-private. You can pay as you play. This may make more financial sense.

What type of lifestyle amenities are you looking for? Do you need lighted tennis courts, heated pools? Do you want a fitness center with a fitness instructor? How many options do you want for dining? Do you want both fine and casual dining? This becomes important when you realize how hard it is to get reservations during the season at outside restaurants. It’s always nice when you can walk up the street and have a fine meal with friends. Do you want a club with a lot of social activities? In the community my wife and I live in we have many friends who do not play golf. Many members will either upsize or downsize within the community. This, to me speaks volumes to the social lifestyle and friendships that we have made in the community in which we are residing.

Just remember, you are buying a lifestyle. It’s not just the golf course, tennis courts and dining, it’s the lifelong friendships that you’re developing. Stop in the lounge for a drink one night and you’ll be among friends, go up and hit a few balls at the range and you’re among friends. It’s a nice feeling!!
