The unmarried surviving spouse of a Veteran who died on active duty or as the result of a service connected disability is eligible for the VA home loan benefits.Â The surviving spouse should complete the "Request for Determination of Loan Guaranty Eligibility - Unmarried Surviving Spouses Form 26-1817
" and send it in to their local VA office or we can send it in for the surviving spouse.Â Also, a surviving spouse who remarries on or after attaining age 57 and on or after December 16, 2003, may be eligible for the VA home loan benefit.Â Children of a deceased Veteran are not eligible for VA home loan benefits.
