The River in Rancho Mirage, is located in one of the most popular cities in the Palm Springs California Desert, known for its many movie stars who have resided here, along with President Ford’s family and the Annenberg Family and many other famous celebrities who’ve found a home in this beautiful desert. And would you believe it…there’s a great area right in the “heart” of Rancho Mirage called The River! That’s right….a river in the middle of the desert!

If you are looking for great restaurants, look no further. The River has many to choose from. • Annual Palm Springs Golf Cart Parade

Posted Under: Entertainment & Nightlife in Palm Desert, Parks & Recreation in Palm Desert, In My Neighborhood in Palm Desert  |  October 22, 2012 9:15 PM  |  698 views  |  No comments

Looking for a great way to enjoy your Sunday, October 28th in Palm Springs, California? Then come early to find yourself a great seating area at this year’s 2012 Golf Cart Parade because the parade route fills up quickly. This festive event started in the 1960’s and it’s been a favorite around town every year since.

You need to bring your portable chairs, blankets, and cameras, because there is a lot to see! The parade starts at 1:00 pm, but many have “claimed” their seating area hours beforehand. There is a full list of activities planned for the day, including the Palm Desert Rotary Pancake Breakfast, face painting, rock climbing, clown entertainment, the Golf Cart Parade itself with Marching Bands and golf carts decorated like you’ve never seen a golf cart like that before! There is plenty of food enjoy, or you can bring your own and have a picnic while watching the parade. Last year over 15,000 attended the golf cart parade. Inquires came from Japan, France, Germany and the Philippines.

  • THINKING OF AN AFFORDABLE FAMILY VACATION?

Posted Under: General Area in Palm Springs, Entertainment & Nightlife in Palm Springs, In My Neighborhood in Palm Springs  |  July 3, 2012 9:28 AM  |  446 views  |  No comments

As many of you know, I live in beautiful Southern California in the Palm Springs Desert Area. There is so much to do in California, but I often wonder how families can afford some of these exciting outings. Most tickets to places like Disneyland, Marine World, and Lego Land run about $100 per child for the day. And that’s just to get in! You still have to factor in parking and food for the day!

You can visit the fantastic San Diego Zoo for $42 for an adult and $32 for a child. These are the same prices for the Wild Animal Park Safari’s in San Diego for the day.

Here’s a less expensive option, and one with so much to see and do. It’s The Living Desert in Palm Desert, California. Kids can feed the giraffes and see hundreds of wild animals. Hiking is also a great sport at The Living Desert. They have wildlife shows and one of the largest train villages I’ve ever seen. Prices are $14.25 for adults; $12.75 for Seniors, Military and AAA Members; $7.75 for kids 3-12 and 0-2 are Free.

How about a Day at the Beach? Or a hike up in the canyons or mountains? Want to cool off, then a ride up the San Jacinto mountain on the aerial tram is most exciting and affordable! $23.25 for adults $21.25 for Seniors and $16.26 for kids 3-12. When you reach the top, you can spend the day in cool temperatures hiking, or just relaxing and viewing the city below. You can also dine there as well.

I recently visited the Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum and Library in Simi Valley and I actually walked thru Air Force One! What a thrill it was to see the very airplane our past presidents flew in with their families, the press and the secret service. It’s a great way to spend the day and visit part of our history.

There’s actually a multitude of affordable family ways to spend your vacation. Wishing you all a Very Happy Summer!

Let me know some of your favorite family activity this summer.

  • Seven Secrets of Success!

Posted Under: Quality of Life in Palm Springs, Entertainment & Nightlife in Palm Springs, Tech Tips in Palm Springs  |  December 13, 2011 1:27 PM  |  1,664 views  |  No comments

We recently said “goodbye to Steve Jobs, Founder of Apple….another genius. How is it that a college dropout, who landed in his parents' garage… and who was once kicked out of his own company, became one of the world's foremost innovators?

Here are Steve’s (7) Secrets to how Steve Jobs triumphed in the face of daunting circumstances and how you can do the same.

    1. Do What You Love, No Matter What It Happens to Be

"Don't settle ... as with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it."

    2. 'Put a Dent in the Universe'

"Put a dent in the universe simply means that you have to have a big, bold, clear, concise vision of what you want…and go for it!

    3. 'Say No to 1,000 Things'

Simplifying his business was key to Jobs' success. Reduce the Clutter in your life and you’ll be able to see with more clarity.  "In 1997, when he returned to Apple, Apple was close to bankruptcy. He took 300 products and condensed them to 10, within a two-year period," he says.

    4. 'Kick Start Your Brain' by Doing Something New

Doing new things helped Jobs, in the word's of Apple's own slogan, "think differently." The inspiration for the Apple store came from the Four Seasons. That's why when you walk into an Apple store you will not find a cashier. You'll find a concierge. Walk to the back of the store and there's a bar. It doesn't dispel – dispense alcohol, but it dispenses advice.

    5. 'Sell Dreams Not Products'

Jobs famously explained that the iPhone was not just a phone but a lifestyle.  I often say I’ve never SOLD a home…I just match people, and their lifestyles to a community! The home will then sell itself!

    6. 'Create Insanely Great Experiences'

"For Jobs, it wasn't just about selling 29 million IPads this summer but entertaining the customer at the same time."  Whether you run a multi-billion dollar tech company or a pizza parlor, innovation, he says, "means creating an experience for your customer."

    7. 'Master the Message'

Jobs wasn't born a naturally gifted presenter -- he was visibly nervous during his first live television interview in the 1970s -- but he improved over time. "In 2007, he actually gave what I consider the greatest presentation I've ever seen -- the introduction of the iPhone." Others can learn from Jobs' secrets Consider, he says, asking yourself what Jobs might do in a given situation. "When you start asking yourself what would Steve do, it's a high bar to reach." "But it's worth reaching."

If my readers will forgive me,

I would like to add one more secret I’ve lived by for many years.

    It’s simple but so important.

“Don’t Die With Your Music Still In You.”
