If you live or work in Durham and are interested in how Durham chooses to develop over the next several years then you should know that Durham's City-County Planning Department is updating the Durham Comprehensive Plan, originally adopted by the Durham County Board of Dowtown Durham SkylineCommissioners and the Durham City Council in 2005.

This plan is the County's and City's statement about how the community should grow and develop. It deals with physical aspects of the community's growth and development and also guides how local government will provide public facilities and regulate new development.

The city is hosting open meetings that will be an initial opportunity for residents and business owners to share their vision of how Durham should look in the future. It will also be an opportunity to learn more about the Durham Comprehensive Plan, the plan update process and schedule, and meet with Durham City/County Planning Department staff.

    Meetings are scheduled as follows:

Thursday, May 26, 2011, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Durham County Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.

Tuesday, May 31, 2011, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Durham County South Regional Library, 4505 S. Alston Ave.

Thursday, June 2, 2011, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Durham County North Regional Library, 221 Milton Rd.

For more information about the update, visit the City's website at www.DurhamNC.gov/Departments/Planning/Comp_Plan_Update.cfm

As many of us who live here know The Raleigh- Durham International Airport has been busily working on expanding for some time and it won't be long before they complete Terminal 2. See attached article from today's N&O for the latest update. To me this is an excellent indicator that the local economy is poised for significant growth over the next couple of years.
