Posted Under: Parks & Recreation in New Mexico  |  June 4, 2010 8:41 AM  |  346 views  |  No comments

June 5, 2010, is National Fishing Day, and to celebrate, the New Mexico Game Commission is granting all anglers, residents and nonresidents a day of free fishing on public waters statewide. On this special day, no one needs a license or stamp, although bag limits and all other fishing rules apply.

Grab your loved ones and head out to New Mexico's lakes and streams!  Be sure to take that sunblock to avoid burns - it's going to be a hot weekend.

It's time to clean up the yard and get ready for Summer entertaining!  Luckily, the City of Albuquerque will be offering free Green Waste pickup during the month of May.

According to www.cabq.gov the free green waste pickup is available to all City of Albuquerque Solid Waste customers only on your regular trash collection day.  This service will only be provided during the weeks of May 3-7th and May 10-14th.  Visit http://www.cabq.gov/solidwaste/recycling/greenwst for more information and guidelines.  This service will also be provided in the Fall.  Normally, Albuquerque residents must take the waste to one of the City's convenience centers.

The City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Department has  a compost program that uses the green waste collected from the citizens of Albuquerque.  The compost is used at city parks and other city facilities.

  • It's a great time to buy a home in New Mexico!

The home buyer tax credit is no more, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great time to buy!

It’s still a great time to buy your first home, or move up into something larger.  Maybe it’s time to purchase that investment property or vacation home you’ve talked about.

Great property deals continue to be offered throughout Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.  Foreclosures and Short Sales are unfortunately abundant, but do provide great investment opportunities for people in a position to buy.

First-time buyer assistance programs are still available.

If you buy a property owned by Fannie Mae you may be eligible to receive 3.5% of the purchase price, which can be used toward closing costs or new appliances – or a combination of the two!   This program is scheduled to expire June 30, 2010.

HUD homes purchased using FHA financing allow you to pay a $100 down payment with a full priced offer!  Contact me for details.

Mortgage interest rates remain at historic lows.  The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.06 % for the week ending April 29, 2010, down slightly from last week when it averaged 5.07 percent.  Securing a mortgage at a low-interest rate will save you thousands of dollars!
