The Pier 1 Fall Catalog is here, an excellent quick and free reference for fall decor ideas. Either use pieces you already have at home to decorate for the seasonal change, or pick up a few new items here. Pier 1 is one of my favorite stylish and eclectic home decor stores; offering products from around the world. Autumn in the home to me equates to warm colors, candles and fireplaces, and overall coziness.

  • Another Surprising 2013 Decor Trend

Brass. I don't really understand this one, maybe it works more-so for the upscale/elegant non-traditional type homes. But it reminds me of the 70's or 80's? And not in a fun way, just seems to be just that; a trend that will come and go? I like contrast and eclectic looks but just personally not a Brass fan as it comes off as tacky to me? Thoughts?

  • Pantone's 2013 Color of the Year...

Posted Under: Remodel & Renovate in San Diego County, Design & Decor in San Diego County, Home Ownership in San Diego County  |  January 8, 2013 6:31 PM  |  2,251 views  |  No comments

Emerald! I'm surprised?! Not sure exactly how to feel about this shade just yet, especially since it's polar opposite of last year's color: Tangerine Tango! I have yet to see this hue decked out in a home so far this year, come to think of it... at all really. It kind of reminds me of a funky portion of the 90's?(dark green carpets?... Was that in the '90's?)

I do, however, think that different shades of emerald, and of course used in fashion or as accent pieces, or decor accent walls I'm sure can be pulled off no problem. For the full press release- Click Here.

    I wasn't feelin' Pantone's press photos on the color, so instead opted for the can't-go-wrong Elle Decor's take on the new trend;

Elle Decor notes: "Pantone named Emerald the Color of the Year for 2013, but we're seeing all shades of greens and expect more in the future from bright spring greens to olives, and especially lots of different blue-greens and teal."

I personally love the accent lamp, chair pillow & artwork above.

In this photo above, I'm not sure if this is just an accent wall or the whole room is this color, hopefully it's just an accent otherwise I think it may be excessive darkness?

Thoughts? I think the hue may add a nice refreshing mix up to today's decor... in an innovating-like way :-).

And in case you were wondering 'who' or 'what' Pantone is: "Pantone LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of X-Rite, Incorporated, is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color across a variety of industries. The PANTONE® name is known worldwide as the standard language for color communication from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer." - Pantone.com

  • Design Inspire! Martyn Lawrence Bullard in Elle Decor

Martyn Lawrence Bullard is one of my favorite decorators, a famous worldly award winning interior designer. His resume includes the likes of celebrities including Cher, Sir Elton John and David Furnish, Christina Aguilera, Eva Mendes, Kid Rock, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne. His impressive resume also includes commercial projects such as the Colony Palms Hotel Group, which is where I first saw his work after watching and learning about him on Bravo TV, and then experienced his work first-hand while enjoying a weekend stay at the Colony Palms Hotel last year in Palm Springs.

I got the chance to dine at their famous Purple Palm restaurant, which he designed, and chilled pool side at their Purple Palm outdoor bar. The whole ambiance takes you to a place as if you're in a whole different land, or a country far far away! I adore the cultural rich designs he implicates, which exude an exotic and and warm flare. I think every cozy home can benefit from his staple concepts, whether throwing in a bold wall color, accent pillows, or designing with wallpaper for some decor eye candy, you can't go wrong. His own home was just featured in Elle Decor and I can't wait to pick up a copy!

I also have his book Live, Love, Decorate, and of course love it as well! A beautiful book full of rich colorful pages, and it actually doubles as a great coffee table conversation starter piece. To read more about Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Click Here.

  • IKEA 2012 Catalog; A Hit or Miss?

I'm officially retiring writing about Robbin's Egg Blue/Tiffany Box Blue on my blog; OK maybe for this week only. Just amused seeing this hue become more and more mainstream. Got the IKEA 2012 catalog in the mail today and not sure if I'm surprised or not, but their front cover is a room featuring our favorite color. Robbin's Egg Blue is now what tans and greys were over the past few years. No complaints, just observing Description: :) .

    IKEA 2011

IKEA 2012 Catalog "A Home Doesn't Need to Be Big, Just Smart."

Whether the catalog is a hit or miss? In my opinion...

It's always a hit! A huge 350+ page free catalog filled with home decor ideas that not only shows product specs and pricing, but also little tips here and there throughout the book. Who wouldn't like it?

Really appreciating their cover logo and catalog theme this year, A Home Doesn't Need to Be Big, Just Smart. Unless you're a celebrity, well-off, etc- McMansion days are out. Huge ridiculous homes are- for the most part a thing of the past and unnecessary for the average American. What's IN are normal practical spaces. Check out IKEA's website for great rearranging tips and ideas for comfortable living in smaller spaces: IKEA.com.

Some of my favorite snap shots from the catalog:

    IKEA 2011

"One room, many zone. Because not everyone likes small talk."

    IKEA 2011

    Home Organization

    IKEA 2011

"Light & Romantic". This page features a$39.99 Height adjustable Kristaller 3-arm chandelier. Have a future post in mind that works great w/this!

What are your thoughts on the IKEA catalogs? A hit or miss?

  • Overly Using On-Trend Decor

Posted Under: Home Selling in Chula Vista, Remodel & Renovate in Chula Vista, Design & Decor in Chula Vista  |  July 28, 2011 11:19 PM  |  5,279 views  |  2 comments

I recently blogged about my latest Tiffany Box Blue/Robbin's Egg Blue Decor obsession, which has not since died down- only grown- but while browsing Otay Ranch(Newer Chula Vista) inventory today; I found a new home for sale by a builder, a model home. Drenched in my beloved Robbin's Egg Blue decor. Please note these are strictly my opinions, but I believe it's safe to say in the majority of situations that, Less is More.

Subject property in question; Having a dining/living room combo + two separate bedrooms painted the same on-trend color is almost always a

Chula Vista Otay Ranch Model Home

Chula Vista Otay Ranch model home loving the Robbin's Egg Blue Decor!

One room, fine trend away, but even if it's not on trend, typically you don't uniform your house unless it's within a neutral palatte. And of course, to each their own, but when selling, and especially a model home when interior designers enter the picture- I kind of wonder what happened here? Not to mention the 3rd bedroom with subtle lime colored walls(that's fine), but notice the Robbin's egg blue bed spread? Yes, too much. Don't get me wrong, gorgeous property BUT When selling- gear towards all audiences

Sure this home could work fine for the average buyer, hey they may even fall in love with it. But picture a masculine say- father & son buying together- some see what they are buying then, not what it could be, as easy as a furniture and paint swap. Not to mention prices near $300k + HOA & Mello Roos nearing $600 total/month- typically mostly discerning buyers in this spectrum. So paint neutral, and if speciality(themes/trend colors)- don't uniform it, it can come off as unappealing or overbearing!
