Cordaville Triangle Park in Southborough
To commemorate an area of Southborough where the Cordaville Woolen Factory once stood, the town has erected an area known as the Cordaville Triangle Park.
In the 19th Century this was the site of the largest factory in town and served as the center of the small mill village known as Cordaville. It was surrounded by the workers' houses which were built by the original mill owner.
With the Southborough MBTA station standing directly across the street, this park was built to create an inviting space that is both attractive as well as functional. Additional landscaping in the planning stages and this park will serve as a pleasant tribute to another time in Southborough's history.
The four village of Southborough include:
Southville
West of Cordaville is the village of Southville. This part of town has some distinct historical buildings like St. Matthews Church and the Cultural Art Center. It is also home to a small artisan community which includes painters, potters and photographers.
Fayville is mostly defined by the reservoir and many parts of it enjoy lovely water views and Fay Park. It includes a large area south of Route 9, Fayville Memorial Field, Fayville Village Center and even has its own post office.
Downtown
Southborough's center is also known as Downtown. Main Street runs through this area which is the exact geographic center of town. Along with the town green there is a small group of restaurants, shops and professional buildings as well as the Southborough Town Hall. It is also the location of the 250 acre campus of St. Mark's, one of the oldest and most prestigious private schools in the area.
Cordaville
Located in the southwest part of Southborough, Cordaville had its start as a 19th century industrial mill village and is now an area with houses that are a combination of older dwellings as well as newer neighborhoods, including Liberty Estates.
To enhance this quaint and historic area of town, Southborough now welcomes the newest park in town, Cordaville Triangle Park.

Southborough or Southboro - It's Still a Lovely Town
There are two ways to spell the name of this convenient town that is located in Worcester County. "Southborough" is the more formal spelling but many of the residents spell the town as its shortened "Southboro."
The Town of Southborough
In its early days Southborough
was known as "Stony Brook" and was actually part of the nearby Marlboro (or Malborough) in the 1600s. The Town of Southborough did not become a town on its own until July 17, 1727.During that period, the town of Southborough was primarily a farming and agricultural community with saw and grain mills as well as iron works. The town's inhabitants spent their days tending crops, working in the orchards and watching over their cattle. One of the remnants of that life is still the existence with the much beloved Galloway Striped Cows.
Railroads and small factories began to spring up by the mid 1800s along the two branches of the Sudbury River. One of these factories was the Cordaville Cotton and Woolen Mill, a mill that made blankets for the Civil War. Its name "Cordaville" remained as a name to one of the four villages in Southborough.
By 1898 water was becoming more of an issue for the community and the Fayville Dam was built. Even after this, the town of Southborough remained a rural community until after World War II. The housing boom of that period along the coming of the" high tech" industry along Route 495 began to change the landscape of the entire area.
Today, there remains a great deal of open space in the town of Southborough with a quarter of the town taken up by the Sudbury Reservoir. And now there are a number of neighborhoods that have been built including Killam Farm, Liberty Estates, Pine Hill Estates and Presidential Estates.
The Southborough Town Hall, called the "Southborough Town House" is part of the downtown area along with a few shops, restaurants and a nail salon (that I frequent.)
Along with a number of surrounding towns, Northborough (Northboro), Marlborough (Marlboro) and Westborough (Westboro), the town of Southborough has two distinct ways to spell its name.
How do you spell "Southborough?"
Actually, whichever way you choose.

Is it Southborough Town House or Southborough Town Hall? In the heart of Southborough on 17 Common Street, you will find a building that is identified as "Southborough Town House." This building is actually Southborough's official town hall.
The Southborough Town Hall is open for business on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m; Tuesday from 8:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m. and on Fridays the town hall is open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
The town hall is located in a pretty setting in the center of town right next to St. Mark's Church.
St. Mark's is an Episcopal church that was founded in 1860 by Joseph Burnett. Burnett was a Southborough resident and a businessman and chemist. He developed and marketed his world-famous Burnett Vanilla Extract and was also the owner of Deerfoot Farms.
As a successful local business owner as well as a concerned citizen, Burnett founded St. Mark's School and St. Mark's Church. St. Mark's School is not far from the town center. Located on 250 acres in its historic setting, the campus provides a beautiful setting with its Tudor styled buildings for the distinguished private school which is now in its 140th year.
Joseph Burnett also played a role in the founding of the Fay School which is across the street from the Southborough town hall.
The Fay School in Southborough was founded in 1866 and is a coeducational day and boarding school for 465 students ranging from pre-kindergarten through grade 9. The school attracts students throughout the country as well as fifteen foreign countries. Through its exceptional program it strives to prepare children for the challenging world of secondary school education as well as beyond school life itself.
The town of Southborough borders on Westborough, Hopkinton and Ashland.
On a beautiful day like today you can walk through the Southborough town center and admire, not only these historic buildings, but also the war memorial and symbolic cannon on the green.
