If you furniture is really in such bad shape that polishing it and
making small inexpensive changes will not make it look nice and new,
then perhaps you should hasten with throwing it away or giving it to
charity. And, then rent some furniture in its place to make your house
look occupied and functional. This may seem like an unnecessary expense
to some, but it is, in fact, an extremely worthwhile investment.
You cannot overestimate the impact bad furniture can make on potential home buyers. Having bad furniture in the house could well become the reason that your house remains unsold for months on end. That is surely not the kind of risk you should want to take.
On the other hand, if your furniture is something that is going with you to the new house, it is best that you get it out of the house. Ideally, place it in a self storage facility until you move to your new place. Many potential buyers may ask you to throw in the furniture to sweeten the deal and to avoid an awkward situation like that it is best that your own furniture is well out of the way.
