Data Scientist, Trulia Data Science Lab
Do you relish the challenge of working with massive datasets?
Do you want the opportunity to apply the latest machine learning algorithms?
Do you get excited about the idea of using data to transform the real estate industry?
Do you consider yourself an innovator? Hacker? Tinkerer? Dreamer?
Then come be a part of Trulia’s new Data Science Lab!
What is a Data Scientist at Trulia?
At Trulia, Data Scientists and Data Mining Engineers take on projects that span the entire data processing pipeline—data cleaning, data modeling, model deployment, and occasionally data visualization. We see the scientist role as similar to that of an engineer, however with a high expectation that you are familiar with recent research and state-of-the-art methods in machine learning and data mining. A data scientist at Trulia will plan projects, and write both prototype and production code.
What will the Data Science Lab do?
Trulia has a large number of datasets, including user logs, property attributes, user contributions, real estate agent data, and neighborhood and geographic data. We are starting a team that will strive to deeply understand this available data, and use that understanding to dream up high-impact projects. Examples of projects are property recommendations for homebuyers, or market intelligence for agents. As a lab, it will be acceptable to pursue projects even where there is some risk. Our measure of success will be impact on the company’s overall business. Publication and contributions to open-source are celebrated, but secondary to business impact.
